Our Workshops
Legal structures and charitable status for sports clubs
One of the most important choices you will make when forming your sports club is which legal structure to adopt. The choices are plentiful, and it can seem overwhelming deciding which option to take. This session will walk through the various structures available to clubs and outline the benefits and limitations of each legal form (including charitable organisation and Community Amateur Sports Club status).

Taxation for sports clubs
Whatever the size of your club, you will most likely come across tax at some point. And getting to grips with tax can help your club pay the right amount and potentially save money where possible. This workshop provides information to help clubs understand what they need to know when it comes to tax.

Funding and fundraising for sports clubs
Funding is vital to the success of sports clubs. Increasing revenues will help you develop clubs, including investing in community projects, increasing club reserves and funding the purchase of new equipment and facilities. Two great ways to increase revenue are fundraising and seeking external grant funding. This session will provide practical and implementable advice for both.

Community Asset Transfers
Due to the impact of COVID-19 upon sports facilities, the opportunities for sports clubs to undertake long-term leases and acquire facilities through ‘Community Asset Transfer’ will continue to increase over the coming years. This process will present many clubs and community-based organisations with great opportunities to put down permanent roots and further develop their plans with the comfort of security of tenure of their site. However, the process of acquiring long-term access to sites is often complex and demanding. This workshop is designed to give you a greater understanding of Community Asset Transfers and what would be involved in undertaking the process.

What does a well-governed sports club look like?
Whatever stage your club is at, or however structured it is, the principles of good governance are still vital for your club to survive and thrive. This session has been designed to help you consider what good governance is and how to apply it in your own club. The session will look at why governance is important, the leadership and direction of clubs, their policies and procedures and more. Participants will also be asked to consider some scenarios relating to governance and how they might resolve them at their respective clubs.
